| Once a year children get the opportunity to celebrate a day in honour of their mother, Mothers day. She is usually treated to a mothers day gift and quite often relieved of all her motherly chores for the day. It is celebrated on different days depending on which country you are in. In the USA it is celebrated on the second Sunday in May and in the UK and Ireland on the fourth Sunday in lent. |

| The origin of the day in the USA is different to that in the UK. It was originally thought of by Julia Ward Howe in 1872, when she wrote the words of the Battle hymn of the republic, however she was inspired by Anna Jarvis, whom fought for better sanitation conditions during the civil war and started the ‘mothers work days’ The idea was later followed and promoted by her daughter called Anna Jarvis also, who used her mothers church to celebrate the day in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908. She later lobbied the state and politicians and eventually the day became official when President Wilson announced the first mothers day in 1914. |

| In the UK during the 1600’s poor servants whom lived and worked with their employers far away from their homes, returned home on ‘mothering Sunday’ to spend the day with their mothers. Mothers day has since become a national celebration for every mother.
