3500-Year-Old Sword Discovered By Dive Club

Lucky diver Michael O’Ruiarc from Offaly recently discovered a 3500-year-old sword in the Shannon River. O’Ruiarc uncovered the historical record while diving with the Shannonside Sub Aqua Club on a routine search and recovery exercise.

Dr. Andy Halpin, a representative from the Irish Antiquities at the national Museum, confirmed the sword’s age. Though the story seems rare, this is not the first time this diving team has discovered ancient gems. They also found a 1000-year-old Viking sword in 2012 that is now part of an exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland.
