Kerry Island: protected, heritage status land granted by UNESCO. Kerry Island: set for the filming of “Star Wars.” These two things may not seem to go together. Archaeologists agree. Early in this week, there was a two mile exclusion zone put up around the island for the cast and crew of the upcoming episode. The Island, whose top reaches 100 feet out of the ocean is home to one of the world’s oldest monasteries dating back to the 6th century. A number of archaeologists have expressed concern for the structure which would be incredibly difficult to repair if damaged. Read the full story below.
