Of the three men who landed on the moon 45 years ago this month was Michael Collins. While his name is not as recognizable as Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin, the mission would have been incomplete without him. He stayed inside the orbiter while the other two men touched on the surface. Another little known fact is that Collins the astronaut was the grandson of a poor farmer from County Cork. After emigrating in the 1860’s to American, Jeramiah Bernard Collins settled, married and his first son James Lawton Collins became the father of astronaut Michael Collins. Nothing the hard working, Irish spirit can’t accomplish.
