Custom made to accept the princess cut stone that a gentleman has carefully selected for his beloved, this solitaire mount evokes a mythical mood with a detailed Claddagh and Celtic knot pattern. From the ruffled cuffs on the hands of friendship to the tiny ridges along the band?s edges, the intricacies of this ring take its wearer to an era in which fastidiously handcrafted art was the standard. The man who purchases this ring may choose between 14 karat white gold or 14 karat yellow gold. He should simply indicate the dimensions of the engagement diamond when ordering.
A Pair of Irish Icons: The Claddagh and the Knot
The Claddagh symbol is perhaps the most recognizable reflection of Irish culture today. Legend states that the first ring adorned with the Claddagh design was a gift from a craftsman named Richard Joyce to his loved one, circa 1700, in Galway, Ireland. Joyce had been held captive for years as a slave in Algeria, and when he was released, he returned home to find his lady still waiting for him. The hands of the Claddagh stand for friendship; the heart, love; and the crown, loyalty. The Celtic Trinity knot also possesses a threefold meaning. Whereas historically the three corners of the knot signal the elements of the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - nowadays, this triangular shape often represents overlapping dynamics such as earth, air, and water, or life, death, and rebirth. On a wedding ring, the emblem may exemplify love, honor, and protection.
The Yesterday of Today
The man who gives this ring to his significant other knows that she is intrigued by the expansive past of Ireland, one diversified by the eclectic creativity, varied belief systems, and passionate loyalty of its peoples. She loves the prospect of reaching into eras gone by and pulling their most extraordinary qualities into modern-day focus. With so much of the spotlight on day-to-day fashion trends, people will take a moment to breathe and to fawn over this bride-to-be's appreciation for, ironically, the uncommonly traditional.
