A Collage of Love
The Claddagh is the traditional Irish symbol for love and marriage. The hands of the Claddagh are thought to represent trust and friendship the heart is of course the representation of love while the crown stands for loyalty and fidelity. As seen in this design the encircling of the Claddagh is meant to signify longevity in the aspects of the Claddagh.
Wearing the Claddagh
The meaning of the Claddagh extends to the hand on which it’s worn as well as the direction in which the crown is facing. In case of a married or engaged person the Claddagh is worn on the left hand with the crown pointing away from the person’s heart. On the other hand a person looking for an intimate partner wears the Claddagh on the right hand with the crown pointing away from the wearer’s heart. And lastly for a person not interested in starting a relationship the Claddagh is worn on the right hand with the crown pointing towards the wearer’s heart.
